Description of Position

Position provides direct instruction to nursing assistant students and will provide all state-regulatory required instruction in accordance with HCTC faculty policy. Will maintain all compliance-related documentation as may be required.



  • Maintain accurate and appropriate student, instructor, and course, and program documentation.
  • Serves as an instructor for the Nursing Assistant/Home Care Aide program in lecture, lab and clinical formats, observing WA regulations for instructor-to-student ratios (1:10).
  • Interact with clinical sites to ensure that policies and procedures specific to the sites are being followed. To assure that students are not asked or allowed to perform any skills with patients, residents or clients until satisfactorily demonstrating the skill to an instructor in the classroom setting.
  • Provide direct supervision to students during the clinical component without any concurrent duties
  • Advise Director as to required supplies as needed for the programs.
  • Keep current with information and skills in teaching field.
  • Willingness to work nights/weekends as needed and duties require.
  • Assist in recruiting and registering students as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with all directors and staff to implement the curriculum, develop policies , procedures and testing tools for student evaluation that creates an environment conducive to a positive learning and teaching experience.
  • Attend and take part in department faculty training and or other institution meetings.
  • Pursue a development plan that provides for personal and professional growth through participation in professional and community activities.
  • Assist with the administration of training programs in accordance with HCTC policies, internal audit procedures, rules, and regulations. Ensure through various methods of evaluation on knowledge and skills that all students have completed the requirements of the course.
  • Assist Directors in the development, delivery and maintenance of programs and strategic partnerships
  • Assists Department Director in recruiting, screening and hiring part-time theory, lab and clinical instructors.  Assures that part-time faculty received appropriate training, oversight and orientations to facility and institution.
  • Undertakes responsibility for departmental equipment, participates in periodic inventory and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the program.
  • Advises Nursing Assistant and Home Care Aide students on issues of program requirements, career prospects and institution-wide issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director of the Nurse Assistant and Home Care Aide Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered WA license as a License Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • A minimum of three years nursing experience is required, to include one year working in direct patient care; and one of the following:
  1. One year experience in a nursing facility; or
  2. One year experience in staff development; or
  3. Evidence of academic preparation for teaching adults; or
  4. Evidence of equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Personal and professional integrity which communicates a sense of mission, leadership, and ability to self-start.
  • Committed to providing quality customer service.

  • Experience in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions and managing projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Personal Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of the curriculum in assigned instructional areas
  • Knowledge of instructional delivery, the elements of effective teaching and learning, and the principles of adult education
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, faculty and clinical site staff.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize task with limited supervision
  • Ability to stay current in the field through professional development and self-study
  • Ability to use computer technology for communication and instructional purposes

Work flexible hours as needed.  Travel may be required.  Access to a vehicle and possession of a current, valid driver’s license required.
